Three ways in

Where do you want to start?

Every person who walks through our door arrives for a different reason. Here's how to find yours.

Restore

Come back from pain.

Postpartum. Menopause. The knee that's been bugging you since the academy. The shoulder that never came back right. Or just the realization at 40 that you can't keep doing what you've been doing. A DPT who knows your name and your file — and a plan you walk out with on day one.

Train

Do anything better with your body.

Chasing a heavier deadlift. A faster Hyrox time. Your first triangle. A body that works at 40 the way it did at 25. A smaller room where the coach knows your name and corrects every set. Whatever you're chasing — there's a floor for you here.

Belong

Bring everyone. Or just yourself.

Bring the kids. Bring the partner. Or just bring yourself. Kids' class runs the same hour as adult training — one drive, everyone trains. A playroom for the little ones. A community that shows up. Drop-off becomes train-together.

Under one roof · Movement is medicine

Train. Treat. Recover.

This is what makes Persist different: a doctor programs your training, treats what hurts, and recovery is already yours. No other gym in the area does all three.

Train

A doctor programs your training. You get stronger around your body, not in spite of it.

Treat

Clinical care down the hall, not across town. A DPT on-site, in the room you train in.

Recover

Sauna + cold plunge included with every membership. The part everyone skips and everyone needs.

Family forward

No need to drop the kids off, bring them.

One bill. One roof. One doctor who knows all of you. Kids' and adults' classes run the same hour — one drive, everyone trains. A playroom for the little ones. A contrast studio for after.

  • Dedicated playroom — kids welcome any time
  • Kids' and adults' classes run the same hour
  • One household, one bill, any shape
  • Yearly DPT assessment for every person (households of 3+)

Why we exist

Four pillars.

This is what we do.

Performance

Training, strength, jiu jitsu craft. Cues and reps.

Recovery

PT, return-to-sport, the work that makes it stick.

Family

Kids, parents, moving together. The fun stuff.

The Long Run

Consistency, habit, the compounding math.

Who we are

Built by people who show up.

Dr. Alyssa Burkitt, PT, DPT

Co-founder · Doctor of Physical Therapy

She programs the training and runs the clinic — assessments, care plans, women's and pre/post-partum programs. Also on the mat.

Brian Hood

Co-founder · Firefighter

Career firefighter, strength & conditioning, jiu jitsu. Leads the floor and tactical athlete prep — because the job never let him pick one discipline.

Train like you matter. Because you do.

Questions

Before you text us.

The things people usually ask first. Anything else — send us a text.

What's a movement screen?

A free 45-minute, 1-on-1 session with a coach. We screen how you move, talk through your goals and any injuries, and you leave with a written plan — which disciplines fit you, how often to train, what to start with. It's the front door to everything at Persist. Clinical evaluations ($175, HSA-eligible) are separate.

Do I need any experience to start?

Not at all. Every new member starts with a free movement screen. Total beginner or lifelong athlete — we build the plan that meets you where you are.

What happens at my first visit?

Your free movement screen with a coach — 45 minutes, 1-on-1. We screen how you move, talk through your goals and any injuries, and you leave with a written plan. Low-pressure, and it's free. Clinical evaluations ($175, HSA-eligible) are a separate, full clinical assessment by our DPT.

Is strength training safe for my kid?

Yes. Supervised, age-appropriate strength training doesn't damage growth plates — that myth has been retired by every major pediatric sports-medicine body. What injures young athletes is doing too much of their sport with too little preparation. Our youth program is written by a Doctor of Physical Therapy and coached in small groups — it's the preparation.

How much does a membership cost?

Full prices are on the Memberships page — shown up front, always. Individual disciplines start at $199/mo. Hybrid (strength + jiu jitsu) is our most popular. The Household plan covers any household on one bill. These are the Founding 25 rates — locked for 12 months, renewing at posted rates.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Often, yes. Physical therapy services are typically HSA/FSA-eligible. Where clinically appropriate, our DPT can prescribe your training as part of your care, which serves as a Letter of Medical Necessity. It depends on your plan — we'll provide the documentation and walk you through it.

I've never done jiu jitsu and I'm not in shape. Am I going to get hurt?

No. Most of our members walked in exactly like that. You start in Fundamentals, you won't spar until you want to, you can tap for any reason, and you choose who you work with. There's a DPT on site — the person most likely to keep you out of the injury you're worried about.

Are there other women training?

Yes — and one of them co-owns the gym. Dr. Alyssa Burkitt trains on the mat alongside everyone else. We run Women's Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals and a Women's Strength class.

Where are you located, and how do I park?

12225 World Trade Dr, Ste S, San Diego, CA 92128. Carmel Mountain Ranch business park, off I-15 near Costco. From Conference Way, turn north on World Trade Dr, second right, straight to the back. Free parking outside the door.
