Jiu Jitsu & Grappling
Control is the skill.
Jiu jitsu, grappling, wrestling — fundamentals first, in Carmel Mountain Ranch. No-gi most nights, gi some. Grappling that makes you calmer, harder to move, and harder to hurt.
What a session looks like
One position, learned properly.
Every class follows the same honest shape. No hazing, no being thrown to the wolves on night one.
Mat prep
Hips, grips, breakfalls. The specific movements tonight's position asks of your body.
Technique
One position, taught in two or three connected pieces. You drill it with a partner who's learning it too.
Positional rounds
Start exactly where tonight's lesson lives. Constraints on, ego off — you're rehearsing, not surviving.
Live rounds — optional
Roll when you're ready, never before. You can tap for any reason, and you choose who you work with.
Who's on the mat
Mostly people who walked in nervous.
Total beginners
Most of our members had never grappled. You start in Fundamentals, and the curriculum assumes nothing.
Women train here
One of them co-owns the gym — Dr. Alyssa Burkitt trains on this mat. We run Women's Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals weekly.
Worried about injury
The person most likely to keep you out of the injury you're afraid of — a DPT — works on site, steps from the mat.

Posted. Same for everyone.
